It is my experience that there are many different types of painters out there. Cheap to Expensive. Quality to less than that.
One thing is clear. Every painter, to ask him or her, is THE best out there.
I am not, but I am constantly trying to be. I feel that there are so many products constantly being introduced to the marketplace for every type of coating or paint failure situation, that you need to keep educating yourself so you can be able to suggest the best solution to each problem. Makes sense, no? Doctor's don't just prescribe penicillin for every problem.
I believe that this is the most important thing for anyone in any profession, but for me, there is also a correlation to selling. I think all consumers will spend money if you give them the information they need, plus a little extra, so they feel educated on the topic.
I find that more often than not, many painters barrel over the homeowner with outdated routines, systems, and pricing methods. If this happened to me in Best Buy, I'd walk out.
To bring it back to the beginning; of all the types of painters out there, I certainly don't think I am the best as far as skill, and I could probably do a few other things differently, but I do believe I am one of the few that constantly assess every aspect of my business and try to do more, learn more, and deliver a better job than I did yesterday. (which was pretty good anyways.)

You guys use that peel bond stuff we don't takes way to long to dry. Benjamin Moores Mad Dog Primer is way better. Also Sherwin Williams Duration is the best trim paint out there. Personally I would trade cover stain primer by zinnser for anything it's cheap and better than anything else. Also if your not using H20 by 3m your wasting time and money you spray the windows with it let it dry then paint the whole house only taping the doors then when it's dry run a razor around the glass and in one pull take all the paint that was on the glass off. For decks Flood SWF is the best. For Solid Body Stain Abor Coat Benjamin Moore. For semi solid body stain flood twf. trust me on this try them once you won't go back.
ReplyDeleteIf you guys want we can trade business I have tons of estimates all the time in the boston metro area but I live in Cape Cod and won't go do an estimate past Plymouth right now I just tell the clients no we don't do estimate there.
